How to Choose Lingerie for Your Boudoir Photoshoot: Styles That Help You Feel Confident, Sexy and Unforgettable

How to Choose Lingerie for Your Boudoir Photoshoot: Styles That Help You Feel Confident, Sexy and Unforgettable

So you've decided to go for it! You found a photographer you love.  You booked your shoot. Planned out your day. Know the exact bottle of rosé you'll take (if not, ask us and we are happy to recommend a few). You're ready.

Except...

Your pile of outfit options doesn't leave you feeling confident or prepared. It's haphazard, too few or way too many, or too not-you. But it's what you have and you're hoping it'll work out on the day of your shoot. Besides, new lingerie is way too expensive and the photographer was pricey enough.

Plenty of brands, influencers and photographers will encourage you to "splurge" on lingerie and spend recklessly because hey, "you're worth it." And while they're right—you totally are—budgets are a real thing and they're tighter than ever.

At Billy's Bras, we help women find affordable quality boudoir lingerie that flatters real bodies and turns nervous excitement into pure confidence in front of the camera. Boudoir isn’t about perfection. Whether you want soft romantic shots, bold seductive poses, or vintage pinup energy, the right sexy lingerie for photoshoot makes all the difference. Especially when it's lingerie you love and can comfortably afford.

You Are the Art

Everyone feels a mix of nerves and thrill before a boudoir session. That’s normal. The secret to boudoir success is choosing the right pieces for your body, goals and aesthetic. Being intentional with your lingerie picks will show up in your lingerie...pics.

Choosing Styles for Your Hide/Show Goals

Thinking ahead about what bits of you that you want shown, highlighted, focused on or not makes all the difference in having photos you love or photos you cringe at.

Highlighting Breasts & Cleavage

Balconette and plunge bras push your breasts together. Open-cup and shelf bras create artistic, confident shots. Sheer lace bralettes let natural freckles, perky nipples, or full shape shine through with delicate texture. Babydolls with push-up cups keep the attention high on your body. Empire-waist chemises add romantic flow while drawing eyes exactly where you want them.

Smoothing Tummy, Midsection & Back

High-waisted shaping briefs, bodysuits and teddies with front power-mesh panels deliver smoothing that tucks softly without restricting movement. Babydolls and chemises float gracefully over any pooch or stretch marks, creating elegant lines. Corset-style teddies gently cinch the waist for that hourglass silhouette.

Celebrating Hips, Butt & Thighs

Cheeky high-cut panties and thongs lift and frame your curves for rear-view shots that pop. Short flouncy babydolls swirl and move dynamically during poses. Sheer back panels or garter sets with thigh-high stockings add classic boudoir drama while celebrating natural shape and texture.

Full-Body & Artistic Shots

All-over sheer mesh teddies and bodysuits let light and shadow dance across every curve — perfect for artistic nudes or implied shots. Open-crotch or snap styles make quick wardrobe changes easy between setups. Garter belts with stockings create that timeless, sensual silhouette that photographs like fine art.

Fully Nude or Topless Poses

If you know you'll be in the nude for some of your session, think about jewelry that can accent, highlight and draw attention to or away from specific areas. Body chains, piercings (whether real or faux), fun pasties or even temporary tattoos can up the interest in art nude images.

Different Aesthetics for Your Boudoir Session

  • Soft Romantic: Light pink, champagne, or ivory chemises and babydolls with lots of lace.
  • Bold Seductive: Black or deep red open-cup sets and sheer bodysuits.
  • Vintage Pinup: Retro-and true vintage style bustiers, high-waisted garter sets, and classic red lipstick pairing. Don't knock vintage corsets and babydolls, either!
  • Modern Minimal: Bra and panty sets, high-leg bodysuits, and strategic cutouts keep things simple and trendy.

Practical Boudoir Prep Tips

Here are a few tips we've learned over the years helping women look and feel amazing:

  • Bring a silky robe or full slip. It helps to cover up between shots, lose any clothing skin lines/indentations before shooting begins, and just feels extra glam and supermodel-esque. It can be a major help in getting in the right mood and mindset!
  • Pack nipple covers for modesty or smoothing under tight, thin lingerie. Maybe you won't use them, but they're small and packable.
  • Tell the photographer if you're too cold. Ideally, the room temp should be set for YOU. If the photog isn't visibly sweating, it's probably too cold. Speak up.
  • Take some double-sided fashion tape and small scissors for straps. Keeping things tacked in place is a huge help for not having to fuss with your outfit the entire time.
  • Take some of your favorite body oil for glow and a body mist. Boudoir shooting can be surprisingly physical and strenuous; having that allover shimmer helps make any sweat disappear or look extra sexy. And no one likes to stink, so smelling great is a confidence booster. Skip the deodorant; it shows up in photos and looks awful.
  • Darker colors (emerald, burgundy, black) hide imperfections and photograph T
  • The "take a friend" suggestion is solid. You need someone you know there to cheer you on, help you dress, and watch your back.
  • Don't overpack. Be choosy about your outfits and keep the flow and decision-making to a minimum. Aim for a max of 3-4 outfits, but just one or two is absolutely acceptable.
